One of the things that I love about the game of basketball is that it has so many real world connections. Work ethic, team work, mental toughness, physical toughness, and intelligence. Think about these words for just a moment… If as a basketball player you possess all of these traits you will be the type of player your coach cannot afford to take off the floor. Did you notice that physical skills such as shooting, passing, and dribbling were not on that list? That’s because having a strong brain is the single most important thing in a basketball player. The game is played at such a high speed and intensity it is important to have a head that works in that environment. I am definitely not saying that the skills that are associated with basketball (shooting, passing, dribbling, etc.) are not important, only the fact that many times the athlete who possess work ethic, team work, mental toughness, physical toughness, and intelligence will have the drive and determination to work on their skills. Many players only spend time working on their game, but I encourage all to take a few moments every week to reflect and think about how you have improved your head…
